Many believe that scientists who have left their mark on the history of a particular research field have chosen that field because of a precocious personal vocation. Such was certainly not the case for Giuseppe Moruzzi (1910-1986), unquestionably an international protagonist of the neurophysiology of the last century and the author of enduring fundamental contributions to the theoretical and experimental grounds of the discipline.
