Since the dawn of time, light has been given spiritual meaning and regarded as the universal symbol of divine; for many different cultures and religions, light is the primary element that instilled order in the cosmos after the chaos of the original darkness.
In the biblical message, light is the most immediate image of God. The command with which the creation narrative begins (“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light”, Genesis, I, 3) highlights the man’s inescapable need to see, to achieve knowledge, ripping at every step the haze of ignorance and superstition.
